Organisers
Damien Warman (Chair)
Mathematician, fencer and gardener, Damien is one of the best known SF fans in South Australia, having won (with Juliette Woods) the “Get-Up-and-over Fan Fund” (GUFF) in 2003, and as such represented Australian SF fans at “Intersection”, the World Science Fiction Convention, in Glasgow, Scotland. Damien has extensive convention experience, and served as one of the GUFF administrators in 2007.
Jeff Harris (Consultant)
Jeff Harris is a dinosaur of the Adelaide Science Fiction Community. He was a founder of the Adelaide University Science Fiction Association in 1971 and the South Australian Science Fiction Society in 1976. Worked on over ten ( he stopped counting when he reached ten) science fiction conventions including four Australian National Science Fiction Conventions: Advention 2 (1973), A-Con (1977), Advention ‘81 (1981) and Advention ‘85 (1985). A committee member of the Salisbury Writers’ Festival since 2004.
Jeff claims to have seen the first episodes of Doctor Who and Star Trek when they were first shown on local television. Jeff may have done other stuff but won’t admit to it.
Adam Jenkins (Information Technology)
Adam is an academic teaching computer science at the University of South Australia. He’s been involved in a number of conventions, including running the SF convention “Concubine” at Adelaide University, and he was involved in both the Seventh Pacific-Asia Conference in Information Systems (PACIS) in 2003 and the Australasian Conference in Information Systems (ACIS) in 2007. Adam is working with Roman to develop Conjecture’s website, and he will be responsible for the IT operations at the convention.
Adam has an almost unnatural fondness for the works of E. E. ‘Doc’ Smith – especially “Spacehounds of IPC” – and is strangely convinced that Tremors is the best film ever made.
Ewart Shaw (Public Relations)
Ewart Shaw a stalwart of community radio in South Australia, as arts and education producer at Radio Adelaide, (formerly 5UV), and is the news director/presenter at 5EBI FM. Ewart is also a reviewer for the Advertiser and a quiz monster.
He saw the first episode of Dr Who in real time.
Nicole Johnston (Email and Volunteers)
Super organised, personable and a little off kilter Nicole is a noob as far as conventions go. Conjecture will be the first convention that she has helped organise, and the first that she has ever attended. A trained music teacher, Nicole spends her time organising software engineers, role playing online and writing a novel based around a vampire run night club.
Roman Orszanski (Tea Brewer)
Active in fandom since 75, Roman is a keen cyclist, radio producer and eco-anarchist. He’s been known to produce the odd fanzine and is frequently seen at conventions. He vows to one day revive The SteamDriven Flugelhorn, and threatens to re-launch the electronic Adelaide Fan Review. A big fan of garamond.
